Why isn't there a EMA strategy?
#1
This is a question for askmike, but if anyone else can answer then please do:

I am fairly new to Gekko and am looking at the strategies available, the one that I am interested in is the EMA strategy after having read about it from Goomboo's posts from your recommendation.  It is also available on many of the online crypto websites, (GDAX cryptowat.ch) where you can select it from the menu and the EMA will appear along with the candles on the main chart.

Whilst I have been into cryptocurrencies for about a year, I was going to write a bot myself being a software developer but someone sent me a link to yours which I am using and perhaps modifying and creating it myself, however before I do, I thought there must be a reason why you create it yourself?

Hello,
I've just installed with a little troubles your great software on a windows 10 machine - first of all thank.

Before I open up a new thread I will ask into a running thread with corresponding issues...

I want to build a trading strategy with EMA and MACD indicators.

EMA : 1: 13, 2: 34
MACD : 13,34,9
30 Minutes Candles

BUY : EMA13 over EMA34, MACD < 0, Lower than last 3 Lows
SELL : EMA34 over EMA13, MACD > 0, Higher than last 3 Highs

Then I have two other questions:
1. where and how can I set the traded amount of crypto in percentage; i.e. 4%
2. is there any insurance feature; with my trading strategy it should not happen, that the fee is higher than the profit, but who knows, so can I set an insurance feature where I can say, that I trade has to be profitable against fees?

@RedQuickSilver : Sorry for crossing your thread - if you have a problem with that, I can open up a new thread.

Thanks for all.

Regards.

The EMA strategy used by Goomboo that you are talking about is the DEMA (double EMA)! It is triggered when the shorter EMA crosses the long.. therefore both EMAs are needed, therefore is is called here DEMA...
The EMA strategy is just a trend indicator and does not provide trading signals by itself...
Also, don't hesitate to collaborate on github instead of just doing your own bot! The more we are, the better gekko will be (i'm talking for myself, and not in the name of the main dev: askmike)..

Thank you for your response,
I have since decided not to write my own bot but to continue with Gekko, and have become a member of GitHub to support and help where needed.

Many thanks,
Stephen

hi ktk,

would you know why the parameters for EMA are thresholds and not number of periods or candles?

I am genuinely new to Gekko and am taking a gander at the systems accessible, the one that I am keen on is the EMA technique
